The Designer

Julia began her floral career in 2008 when she started designing at her mother’s “retirement hobby flower shop.”   It did not take long for flowers to become her passion and her life.   Shortly after, she became partners with her mother.  For the past nine years, they have owned Busy Bee Florist & Gifts communities.   With her growing desire for creative design, Julia recently founded her freelance business, Pualeialii Floral Expressions which explores the Floral Art side of Julia.

Understanding the importance of floral education and its role in her wish to challenge herself and aspire to “think outside the box”, Julia began attending seminars and floral classes.  In 2013, she became an Illinois State Certified Professional Florist (ICPF) and in 2014 received her European Master Certificate (EMC).  Driven to further her floral skills, she enrolled as a candidate in the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD®).  In July 2016, she successfully demonstrated through both written knowledge and design skills to have an advanced understanding of the fundamentals of professional floral design and has been recognized by AIFD® as a Certified Floral Designer (CFD®).  Julia was inducted as a member of AIFD® on July 3, 2017.

From 2015 to 2016, Julia travelled with the EMC Team to Canada, Europe and around the United States giving presentations for EMC Trend Summits, EMC Plus Programs as well as creating floral displays for Fleuramour at Alden Biesen Castel in Belgium.

Julia is also continuing to broaden her floral art horizons.  Through her freelance business, Pualeialii Floral Expressions, she has begun to taking part in floral exhibitions worldwide as well as teaching wire technique workshops and as a correspondent freelance writer for floral magazines in the United States and Belgium.

Hoping to share her experience and help other ambitious floral designers realize their dreams, Julia began helping mentor EMC students in 2015 as they worked toward their EMC certification and is presently the Education Coordinator for EMC bvba.  She is also assisting the Illinois State Floral Association’s continuing education “Boot Camp” Program as a Teaching Assistant.
